I am really bummed that it took me until watching the Grammys to find this out, pretty sad shit.

Today, it was announced that Syd Barrett, the founding member of British rock band Pink Floyd died from a complication with diabetes. According to a Pink Floyd spokeswoman, he died days earlier (July 7) but the announcement was withheld. "He died peacefully at home. There will be a private family funeral in the next few days," said his brother Alan Barrett. "The band are naturally very upset and sad to learn of Syd Barrett’s death. Syd was the guiding light of the early band line-up and leaves a legacy which continues to inspire," noted a statement issued by Pink Floyd.
Talk about surprised. I went into this movie with no love for the Dixie Chicks, President Bush or country music in general. I walked away with a respect for a group of girls that pretty much let it all hang out. This was an amazing movie. For those of you who are not aware of the basis of the movie, a brief synopsis - Natalie Ma
ines, lead singer of the best selling female recording artists of all time, concluded a concert in England (The day before we invaded Iraq) by stating that she was ashamed that the President of the united States was from Texas. Little did she know that that statement would seriously disrupt the next three years of her life in such a profound way. This documentary follows the fallout of those statements over the course of three years, until the release of their new album in 2006. Death threats, a ban on country stations, plummeting record sales, and a myriad of personal and proffessional battles ensued. Now not being a fan of country, I was not sure what to expect, but man did they hit one out of the park with this. Anyone that watches alot of movies knows when you see a well MADE movie. This was just done right, it made you feel what the girls went through without it feeling to political.(Don,t get me wrong their is political issues in this movie, but it never feels over done) Will I go out and buy the new album now? No. Will I develop an ignorance towards the political powers that run this country? No. But if I do hear one of their songs on the radio, I might keep it on, and before I stand behind what my country says it needs to do, I might speak up. And I most definitely will suggest that people go and see this movie, but go with an open mind, and no agenda, it will be worth your time and effort.
